Thanksgiving
at the beaches.

A table full of your favorite people. A walk by the water. A little holiday magic after dark.

Whether you live here or are making a long weekend of it, here’s how to enjoy Thanksgiving around Rehoboth Beach and Lewes—from dinner reservations to the first lights of the season.

First, make a plan for the table.

A restaurant meal keeps the kitchen quiet. Takeout lets you host at home without doing every dish yourself. These are a few concrete places to start—book or order before the holiday week arrives.

Dine out · Rehoboth Beach

Big Fish Grill

Thanksgiving buffet · 10 AM–7 PM

A wide seating window makes this an option for either an early holiday meal or dinner. Online reservations are offered for parties of four or more; smaller parties should contact the restaurant about availability.

Good to know: the published adult buffet price is $52.95, with a 20% gratuity added to all parties. Children’s pricing is listed on the restaurant’s page.

Dine out · Lewes

Irish Eyes

The Lewes Room · Noon–5 PM

The upstairs Thanksgiving buffet brings together traditional turkey and sides with coastal additions such as oysters, peel-and-eat shrimp, and mahi-mahi.

Plan ahead: call 302.645.6888 for reservations. The holiday event is in the Lewes location.

Big Fish Market

Order by November 19 at 5 PM

Choose a prepared family dinner, an individual meal, or just the sides and desserts you’d rather leave to someone else.

Pickup: November 24, 25, or 26. Select your pickup day when ordering, and plan refrigerator and reheating space before your guests arrive.

A long weekend, without overplanning it

Four days. Plenty of room to slow down.

Use this as a loose itinerary. Keep the meal and the evening event on your calendar, then leave space for a favorite shop, another coffee, or one more walk.

Thursday · November 26

A walk, then the feast.

Start at the Rehoboth Bandstand for a boardwalk stroll, or choose the canalfront in Lewes. Leave the afternoon for your reserved meal or dinner at home.

Choose a walk →
Friday · November 27

Stay for the lights.

Browse downtown Rehoboth, make an early dinner plan, and head to the Bandstand before the 6:30 PM community tree lighting.

Saturday · November 28

Make it a local shopping day.

Build an afternoon around Second Street in Lewes or Rehoboth Avenue and Baltimore Avenue. Pair independent shops and galleries with lunch and a warm drink.

Sunday · November 29

Take the scenic way.

Save some daylight for Gordons Pond or a relaxed canalfront walk. A shorter out-and-back gives you time outside without committing to an all-day outing.

After the Thanksgiving table

The holiday season starts here.

Friday, November 27 · 6:30–7:15 PM

Rehoboth’s community tree lighting

Meet at the Bandstand, at the ocean end of Rehoboth Avenue, for holiday songs and the countdown to the tree lighting. It’s an easy centerpiece for Friday evening downtown.

Our suggestion: arrive before 6:30, have dinner booked on either side of the event, and bring a warm layer for the oceanfront breeze.

Seasonal outings · Check the winter calendar

Schellville’s Enchanted Winter Celebration

Behind Tanger Outlets Seaside, Schellville combines a lighted tree maze, miniature holiday houses, train rides, and local makers in one festive stop.

The Winter Celebration has free admission. Dates and hours vary, and some separate special events require tickets—choose your evening from the organizer’s calendar.

A little fresh air between meals

Three ways to enjoy the quieter coast.

Ocean views · Rehoboth Beach

The boardwalk

Begin at the Bandstand and choose either direction along the mile-long boardwalk. It’s an easy way to fit an ocean-view walk around a meal reservation without planning a trail outing.

Bring the dog: leashed dogs are allowed on Rehoboth’s beach and boardwalk during the Thanksgiving season.

Beach & boardwalk visitor details →
Marsh views · Cape Henlopen

Gordons Pond Trail

The 3.2-mile trail includes crushed-stone stretches, elevated boardwalk, and observation lookouts. Go for the pond and marsh scenery as much as the walk.

Choose your distance: the full trail is one way, so allow for the return trip—or turn around sooner for a shorter outing. Bring layers for exposed stretches.

Waterfront pause · Lewes

Canalfront Park

Make Front Street your starting point for the park’s canalfront boardwalk, benches, and overlook. It pairs well with browsing nearby Second Street.

For a mixed-age group: this is a compact stop with places to sit and a nearby children’s playground, rather than a long trail commitment.

The practical details

A few things worth knowing before you go.

Rehoboth parking is in its free season.

The city’s paid parking season ends September 15, so Thanksgiving falls in the free-parking period. Posted restrictions and private-lot rules still apply.

Rehoboth’s official parking information →

Lewes has its own parking rules.

Downtown meters operate May 1–October 14. Thanksgiving is outside that season, but check posted time limits when you settle in for shopping or lunch.

Lewes parking locations & rules →

Know the year-round restroom stops.

In Rehoboth, the city lists year-round facilities at the ocean end of Rehoboth Avenue near the Bandstand and at Grove Park. That helps when planning a longer walk with family.

Public restroom locations →

Leave room for holiday hours.

Choose your Thanksgiving meal first. Check individual shop and restaurant hours, keep a warm indoor stop in mind, and plan trail time during daylight. The holiday weekend can feel different from a summer visit.
